Mr. William Evert Rice, Jr., "Bill", age 73, a longtime Damascus resident passed away early Friday morning February 1, 2013 at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, MD. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. Rice, his wife of 46 years.|
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his daughters Teresa A. Crockett and husband Jim of Damascus, MD, and Christine Russ of Monrovia, MD. "Papa" was the proud grandfather of Crystal, Billy (JR), and Rachel as well as his great-granddaughter Madison.
Bill was born September 13, 1940 in San Jose, California. He was the son of the late William Evert Rice, Sr. and Alice Spencer Rice. In 1959, he graduated from Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento, CA and went on to attend Shasta College. He spent the following six years proudly serving his country in the US Army.
He worked and retired from Montgomery County Government as a weights and measures inspector. The following ten years, he worked as a bus driver for Montgomery County Public Schools.
Bill was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church of Damascus, MD. He served as Commander and spent many years volunteering at American Legion Post 171; particularly with the baseball program. He also proudly served as the Southern Maryland District Commander from 2005-2006. He was also a member ofAMVETS Post 2, Loyal Order of Moose 371, and the VFW all located in Frederick, MD.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 at Molesworth-Williams P.A. Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road Damascus, MD 20872.
A Legion Everlasting Post Memorial Services will begin at 8 p.m. followed by a Christian Wake Service.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph B. Pierce at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church 9250 Damascus Road, Damascus, MD 20872.
Interment will follow at All Souls Cemetery, 11401 Brink Road Germantown, MD 20876.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Bill's name be sent to American Legion Post 171, PO Box 171, Damascus, MD 20872.
