William Robert Burkett Obituary
William Robert Burkett, 90, of Cresaptown, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at theWesternMaryland Regional Medical Center.

Born May 17, 1922 in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Harry Burkett and Etholyn (McIntyre) Burkett, and was raised in Frostburg. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Harry Burkett, Jr., and one granddaughter, Allison S. Burkett.

Mr. Burkett graduated from Beall High School in 1940 and a graduate of Catherman's Business School. In high school he was known as a highly skilled athlete where he played on the basketball, baseball and soccer teams. William retired from the B & O Railroad in 1982 after 40 years of service as a clerical/administrative labor relations staff member. Mr. Burkett served in the Army Air Corps. in Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was a Charter member of the Ali Ghan Shrine Railroad Unit, the Davis Lodge # 51 AF & AM, Keyser, McCoole V.F.W. Post # 6775, Maryland Traveler's Club, and DuBois Military Reunion Group in Pennsylvania. William served as a Deacon for several years at the Keyser Presbyterian Church and presently a member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church.

William and his wife Vernaraised their family in Keyser for 20 years. His passion was flying, where he also owned his own private aircraft that he flew for many years. He also enjoyed general photography and aerial photography.

Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Verna A. Burkett one son, W. Paul Burkett and wife Mary Jo, Mt. Airy; one daughter, Marjorie J. Fazzalore and husband Rob, Keyser; four grandchildren, Brian Faulk and wife Amanda, Celena M. Fazzalore, Robert Fazzalore, III and wife Jaime, Ryan S. Burkett; three great-grandchildren, Emma J. Burkett-Bryant, Ilario Fazzalore, Isabella Fazzalore; one sister, Margaret Thomas, Oakland and numerous nieces and nephews.
