Billy Royce Scales passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014. He was born in Carnegie, OK on April 26, 1929, to Johnny and Grace Scales. He was a living tribute to the Grapes of Wrath. His family picked fruit and worked their way to Fresno, CA where his dad began a pre-cooling business. He graduated from Central High School. All his grandchildren attended his alma mater, Central High. He served in the United States Army and is a Veteran of the Korean War. He earned a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He then joined the Army National Guard in Fresno where he served for 38 years. He started as a laborer with the City of Fresno and retired 30 years later, as a Superintendent of the Street Department. His true love was his cattle and his ranch. He taught all of his grandchildren a strong work ethic. He enjoyed participating with his grandchildren in their 4-H and FFA activities. He loved to tell jokes and be the life of the party. He was the star student at Arthur Murray's dance school and loved to show his talents to all. He was a self made millionaire, by never throwing away anything. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hester Scales; and his grandson, Trever Jarvis. He is survived by his two daughters, Deborah Butlery, and Kathy Jarvis and her husband Brad; his six grandchildren, Melissa Chiasson-Yarrington and her husband Aaron, Amanda Monroe and her husband Eric, Corey Jarvis, Aaron Jarvis, Jessica DeMoss and her husband Noah, and Katherine Russell and her husband Ryan. He also has six great-grandchildren. A Viewing will be held at Stephens & Bean Chapel on Sunday, March 23, 2014, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warriors Project, 4899 Belfort Rd.
