Mr. Rose, a resident of Sanger for 89 years, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014. He was an agricultural steward, a farmer, father, grandfather and a wonderful husband. Ed was born on April 10, 1924, at the Burnett Sanitarium, at Fresno Community Medical Center in Fresno, CA to Jim Rose and Ina Pugh. As a child, Ed was raised on his parent's farm near Sanger and attended Granville School. He graduated from Sanger High School where he lettered in track and field sports. He was a graduate of Fresno State College. Ed enlisted in the United States Army during World War II and proudly served his country in the Army Infantry in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Stauffer Chemical Co. for 37 years before retiring as their Western Region Product Development Manager. Ed was a supporter of agricultural education and was instrumental at starting the Ag Backers Council (ABC) at Reedley College and was one of the forming and founding members of Ag One at Fresno State. Ed also was a guidance director for Central California Childrens Hospital and member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sanger. Ed, with his wife, traveled extensively, visiting 49 states in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Croatia, Chile and Argentina. In retirement, he continued his love for farming and he and his wife took their produce to various Farmer's Markets in the Monterey Bay area. He loved the atmosphere and people who came to Market, and made many more friends, introducing them to the fruits of the family farm. Ed loved life and was an inspiration to all who knew him. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the loving staff of Grace Gardens for making his last year comfortable. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Gladys Johnson; his wife of 50 years Katherine; and grandson, Eli Tritch. Ed is survived by his daughters, Virginia Rose of Sanger, Tudy Tritch and husband Ellis of Clovis, Janet Blume and husband Mike of Woodbridge. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Zachary and Nikoli Tritch, and Erin and Amy Blume. Ed had strong family ties and was most proud of his grandchildren. A private service was held.
