On January 16, 2014, Jankie suddenly passed away in Fresno where he resided since 1970. He was born in Chaguanas, Trinidad, West Indies, on February 8, 1929, to Samsoondar and Soondardaye Supersad, the third of five children. He attended Queen's Royal College (high school) and at age 16, won the prestigious Island Scholarship in Mathematics. He attended Glasgow University and graduated with a B.Sc. Honors, in Civil Engineering, Northwestern University
with an M.S.C.E Degree and a Ph.D from Arizona State University
, specializing in Highway and Traffic Engineering. He joined the faculty at California State University, Fresno, in 1970 and retired as Professor Emeritus in August 1992. Jankie was preceded in death by his parents; brother Sookhmungal; and his sister Bassie from Trinidad.
Jankie is survived by his wife Pearl (nee Dindial); daughter, Dr. Joanne A. Supersad, her husband Chuck and son Eric; June Supersad; Jill Goodin, her husband Von Goodin D.D.S of Merced and their children Jared, Allison Strachan and her husband Matt and Cameron Goodin; sisters, Savitri Ramnarine, Padma Singh; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Celebration will be on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at College Community Congregational Church.
