Joe lived a full life and was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather. Joe had a long career in journalism, starting at Downey High School in Modesto, Ca., and continuing at Modesto Junior College and University of Oregon in Eugene. He then worked for the Salem Capital Journal, the Napa Register and as managing editor of the Grass Valley Union. In Fresno Joe worked as an Associated Press reporter for 27 years covering the news from Stockton to Bakersfield. Upon retirement, he wrote for the Sirs (Seniors in Retirement) Newsletter, Branch #179. Photography captivated Joe's interest and became a hobby. His beautiful pictures are displayed throughout his home. Joe cherished his family and get-togethers during the holidays. Joe is survived by Betty, the love of his life with whom he spent 56 wonderful years. He is also survived by his son, Craig and his wife Susan Bigham; daughter, Pamela and her husband Mike Schy; grandchildren, David and his wife Amber, Brandon, Jiliean Schy, and Danyele Magretta; greatgrandchildren, Declan and Ciaran Connolly and Farynn Schy. A Memorial Service will be held at Wesley United Methodist Church located at 1343 E. Barstow Avenue on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. Donations may be made to the Wesley Foundation at the same address.
