After a wonderful life, Merle James Waggonner, age 92, a resident of Clovis, Ca. passed away peacefully on Monday, September 28, 2013. Merle was born on January 21, 1921, in Roy, NM, to William and Eudora Waggonner. In the mid 1920's, the Waggonner's relocated to Ivanhoe, Ca. Merle attended Visalia Union High School, but in December of 1940, cut short his senior year to enlist in the United States Army. Merle spent three years in the Pacific during World War II, receiving two purple hearts and three Bronze Star Metals. He was discharged in 1945. In 1947, Merle married Frances Lola Jones "the love of his life", they were together for 47 years, till Francis's death in 1994. Merle's professional path was in the grocery industry. He was most proud of his involvement with the Country Boy Markets and the Mio Rancho Tortilla Company. Merle retired in 2003, at the age of 82. Merle is survived by his daughter, Julie Mizuhara and her husband Matt; grandson, Bradley Comstock and his wife Sara; greatgrandchildren, Evelyn and Roland Comstock; brother, Larry Waggonner and his wife Caroline; and several nieces and nephews. The Mizuhara family would like to thank the nurse's and nursing assistants of 5th floor east at the VA Central Valley Health Care System for their compassion, support and uncompromised professionalism. We will be forever grateful. At Merles request, no service will be held. A Celebration of Life will be held at the club house of the Bonaventure Mobile Home Park, 1724 Minnewawa Ave. Clovis, Ca., 93612, (559) 299-2924, on Saturday, November 9, 2013, at 12:00 noon.
