July 30, 1944 - January 16, 2014
Dale left us Thursday, January 16th at 11:30 p.m. to join God's classic car club. He was born at the old St. Mary's Hospital on July 30, 1944, to Howard and Irene (Granat) Rees, who preceded him in death.
He joined the Navy after college and served on the USS Belnap, USS Conway, and USS Waller, all battleships during the Vietnam War. He was a Master Gunners Mate. When he was discharged, he returned to Grand Junction where he worked for the D&RGW and Union Pacific Railroads. He retired after 33 years. He was married twice before he married the love of his life, Laura (Green) Rees.
Dale was the last of his generation and therefore the family historian. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Fred May, and twin, Dean Rees, both of whom he loved dearly. He joined the VMCCA car club soon after its inception where he enjoyed many fun tours and activities. He joined 4-H as soon as he was old enough. He showed sheep and cattle where he won many awards. He, his twin brother, Dean, and sister, Connie Preston Klauzer enjoyed many hours grooming, learning to show animals, and square dancing all over the state. Both of his daughters were in marching band at GJHS where, as a member of Band Parents, he started and ran the bingo program. It allowed the Band Parents to purchase new uniforms for the whole band and took the whole band to Disneyland at the Band Parents' expense.
Dale leaves behind his two beloved daughters, Kristine (Paul) Rees Elliott, and Karin Rees; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Megan; sister, Connie Klauzer; sister-in-law, Gloria Rees; sister-in-law, Lorene (Don) Green Davis, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear childhood friends.
Services will be at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary on Saturday, January 25th at 2:00 p.m. Private burial services will be at the Mesa Colorado Cemetery on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to Roice-Hurst Humane Society, PO Box 4040, Grand Junction, 81502, or Disabled American Veterans at 1346 Pitkin Ave. Grand Junction, 81501.
