Lifelong resident of the Grand Valley, Harvey Earl DuBose, met his Lord on August 19, 2014, following a long battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Earl was born May 31, 1936, to Harvey and Elsie Ball DuBose in the Bridges Switch community two miles West of Palisade, CO. He grew up on the family farm, attended Mt. Lincoln Grade School and graduated from Palisade High School in 1955. He married Fern McMahon in 1956.
Earl worked in the dairy industry for 38 years, starting in 1957, as a milkman for Crescent Creamery. He was the General Manager of Colorado West Dairies and worked in the butter and cheese commodities market for Sinton Dairy Foods.
Earl joined the Central Orchard Mesa Volunteer Fire Department in 1964 where he served as Fire Chief for 23 years and as a member of the Fire Board until 2012. As a certified paramedic, he was in the first paramedic class in Mesa County.
Earl and Fern started DuBose Travel Company and worked with Adventure Caravans, guiding RV tours. With Professional Seminar's Healthcare exchange program, they traveled to many different countries including China, Africa and India. They accompanied students and faculty of Wayland Baptist University to England, Scotland, and Wales, and missionary teams to Belize. Their travels took them to 33 different countries.
Earl leaves a legacy of cheerfulness, kindness and genuine concern for others. Central Orchard Mesa Community Church was his church home for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Fern; daughters, Shelda (Shane) Briggs of Brush, CO, and Dr. Carmell C. McCandless of Dayton, NV; grandchildren, Sage Briggs, Shiloh (Julene) Briggs, and David McCandless; great-grandsons, Egan, Barrett, and Raiden Briggs, and sister, Frances (Ken) Adams of Loveland, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Marion Arnold DuBose, and sisters, Betty Sexton, and Evelyn Richardson.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Central Orchard Mesa Community Church. Interment will be at the Palisade Cemetery.
