James Douglas Craig September 14, 1949 – May 19, 2013 James Douglas Craig of Windsor, died suddenly and unexpectedly on May 19, 2013, at the age of 63. Jim was born on September 14, 1949, to R. Vernon Craig and E. Jane Craig in Ottawa, Kansas. Jim lived in Kansas as a child, and moved with his family to Louisiana. He graduated from West Jefferson High School in New Orleans, LA. As a National Merit Scholar he continued his education at the University of Northern Colorado, graduating with a BA in Journalism. Throughout his years in Northern Colorado, he worked for the Greeley Tribune as a photojournalist and writer. Jim received numerous awards and accolades for outstanding journalistic achievement. He was the youngest recipient ever to receive the Silver Bell Award for educational reporting. He worked as a journalist consultant for numerous political and private entities and for various magazine publications, including his own publications, one of which was Wild Dawn. He always had a way with words. Jim also had a desire for being his own boss. Up until the time of his death he ran a second hand store where he was able to build relationships with a variety of people with whom he enjoyed working with on a daily basis. Jim's true passion was the outdoors and giving back to others. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, wanting to help preserve the outdoors for future generations. Jim enjoyed working and serving many years on both Greeley and Windsor Ducks Unlimited Chapters in various roles throughout the organization. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Greeley Boys and Girls Club. Jim is survived by his parents, R. Vernon and E. Jane Craig of Grand Junction; sister, Susan (Gary) Rhyne of Grand Junction; daughter, Rebecca (Doug) Jardine of Windsor; grandchildren, Austin and Sarah Jardine of Windsor; nephew, C.J. (Kayla) Rhyne, and their two children, Adalyn and Canon of Fruita, and an uncle, Clarence (Margaret) Craig of Grand Junction. Cremation has taken place at Marks Funeral Home. Private family services to be held at a later date in Ouray, Colorado.
