DIANE FLORENCE BROST YOUNG
The Guest Book is expired.
Diane F. Brost was born in Chicago, Ill., on Aug. 5, 1947, to Chester and Sylvia Brost.
In 1950 Diane and her parents moved to Long Beach, Ind., where she spent her childhood years. She attended Notre Dame Catholic Elementary School, Long Beach Elementary School, and graduated from Isaac C. Elston High School in Michigan City, Ind.
Chester was in the furniture business, both sales and manufacturing, and Diane learned a lot about the business from her father as she was growing up.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Warsaw, IN, where she had a men's and women's clothing store for several years. Diane's parents eventually moved to Warsaw where Chester opened up a retail furniture store, which she helped with.
In 1982, Diane moved to Scottsdale, AZ, where she was involved in women's fashions. After four years in Scottsdale, she decided she would like to be back with her old friends in the Michigan City, Ind. area.
She moved back to Michigan City and worked for a local eye doctor, running his three locations and two companies.
In 1987, she met Barry Young, a local police officer and lifelong Michigan City resident. Diane and Barry started dating and in June of 1995 they were married. In 2002, after Barry retired, they moved to Green Valley, Ariz., along with Chester and Sylvia.
Not one to just sit around, and recognizing a need in the community, she opened Easy Living Furniture in Green Valley, which she operated until she developed blood clots in her lungs, which incapacitated her to where she could no longer engage in the business.
Diane's father and mother passed away during this time, and try as she might, she was never able to regain the health she once had. She succumbed to massive coronary problems on Nov. 30, 2013.
She leaves behind her husband, Barry; his children Robert (Stacey) and Michelle (Kevin); grandchildren Allyson, Alexa, and Ashley; her best friends from school Jane and Kitten; and her cats Brandy and Bo. Countless other friends here and in Indiana will miss her dearly also.
There will be a funeral Mass on March 26, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. Interment of cremains will be later in the summer in Michigan City.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Animal League of Green Valley.
