Ivan Bull (born April 28, 1924) died Jan. 31, 2013 at La Hacienda, Green Valley, Ariz., surrounded by friends, family, and loving caregivers.
Dr. Bull was born in Ottumwa, Iowa and grew up on a family farm near Eldon IA. He attended William Penn College and was selected for the Army Special Training Program in World War II. He served in the 99th infantry division, 395th regiment, 3rd battalion, L company, seeing action at the Battle of the Bulge and the Remagen Bridge in 1944-45. After being wounded in April 1945, he returned home to Iowa and married Dorris O'Neal in September 1945.
He graduated from the University of Iowa with an accounting degree in 1947, and joined McGladrey, Hanson, Dunn accountants. He rose through the ranks to managing partner (1966-1982) and served as Chairman of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1976. In 1982 he retired from McGladrey and enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the University of Illinois. He graduated in 1987 and taught in the College of Commerce until 1997. He and Dorris retired to Green Valley, AZ in 1999.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, and by his four children (Dennis Bull of Dallas TX; R Warren Bull of Kansas City, MO; Peggy Bull Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; and Tina Bull of Corvallis, OR). He also has 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family and friends for his honesty and love of family.
