Dr. Charles Terry Fletcher, age 79, passed away on May 4, 2012 while fishing in Cedar Key. He was born October 3, 1932 in Trenton, FL; the eldest son of George Daniel and Bertha Johnson Fletcher. He was Valedictorian of the Class of 1950 from Branford (FL) High School. He graduated in 1954 from the University of Florida (UF) College of Pharmacy and then served in the US Navy. After working as a Pharmacist he then returned to Medical School, graduating in 1964 from the UF College of Medicine.

Terry met his wife, Shirlene Vining, while enjoying an afternoon of boating on the Suwannee River. In 1959, he married the love of his life, Shirlene "Cookie" Fletcher. Shirlene supported Terry through medical school while they lived in the Flavet Village at UF.

In 1966, Terry began his medical practice across from Gainesville High School. He was a family practice medical doctor for over 30 years. He devoted his life to ensuring that his patients received the best possible care. He spent time as the team physician for Gainesville High School's football team for many years and was a mentor for UF Medical Students. He was known for his smile, sense of humor, his medical expertise and devotion to helping others with that special twinkle in his eyes.

Terry and Shirlene were members of Parkview Baptist Church for over 50 years. He lived each day as a servant with a strong faith in the Bible and the certainty of God's promises.

"Doc Doc" enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren and many friends. During his retirement, his hobbies included fishing, gardening, listening to music and collecting albums. He loved learning new things. Terry was a voracious reader; he made the most of his "internet connection" for ongoing education, communication, and building an extraordinary music library of his favorite songs.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, and his three grown children: Vicki Fletcher Hayes (Calvin Hayes) of Tampa, FL, G. Brian Fletcher (Karen Fletcher) and Miriam D. Fletcher (David Beggs) of Gainesville. He loved his grandchildren and they loved him dearly: Gaines Hayes (Tampa), Sydney Fletcher and Madelyn Fletcher (both of Gainesville).

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Westside Baptist Church, 10000 W Newberry Road, Gainesville. The family will receive friends at Forest Meadows Funeral Home from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, May 8.

In lieu of flowers, we would be honored to see the Gainesville Ronald McDonald House have the benefit of donations in his honor.

John 3:16 "For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life."
