High Springs - Danny Richard Culbertson, age 62 of High Springs, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013 in E.T. York Care Center. He was born March 7, 1950 in Hamilton, Ohio to Richard W. and Verna J. Scheid Culbertson. Danny graduated from Princess Anne High School, Virginia Beach, VA in 1968. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, where he was stationed in Okinawa. He graduated from Florida Tech University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and went on to the University of North Florida where he earned a Bachelors of Engineering. A twenty-two year career with NASA as a civil engineer followed. On October 30, 1996, Danny received the Silver Snoopy Award at Kennedy Space Center, presented by astronaut, Mike Anderson. He then retired and moved to Alachua, Florida. After spending one year with the Peace Corps., he explored RV living, traveling to Ohio, Colorado, Grand Canyon, St. Lake City, UT, Skyline Drive and many other places. His body was attacked by cancer in 2003 and he fought a valiant 10 year battle.
He is survived by his parents, Richard W. and Verna J. Culbertson of High Springs, FL; brothers, Steve (Berla) Culbertson of Oneida, NY and Terry (Roxanne) Culbertson of Southwest Ranches, FL; nieces, Lauren, Kelly and Danielle Culbertson of Southwest Ranches, FL; dear friend, Roxy White and many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
A Memorial Service is pending. Arrangements are under the care of WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME WESTAREA, 823 NW 143rd Street.
