EVELYN WELLS, 103

Gainesville - Evelyn Wells Newberry, went to her heavenly home on April 6, 2013 in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 103.

Born September 25, 1909 in Eureka, Florida. A retired elementary public school teacher, she began teaching immediately upon graduation from High School in Anthony, Florida. She later obtained the "Normal Diploma" from the University of Florida in 1938 and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the School of Education in 1943. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. An avid gardener, Evelyn was a long time member of the Gainesville Garden Club. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Florida. She built her own business, with her husband's encouragement, while raising a family. She was a proud Gator alum and a vocal fan of all things Gator until her death.

Evelyn was preceded in death by husband C.T. Newberry who died in 1988.

She is survived by sister Birdie Brown of Ft. McCoy, Florida, sons Tom Newberry (Susan) of Woodland, Minnesota and Bill Newberry (Jean) of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandchildren Adria, Alexis, Christopher (Ashley), Peter, Sarah, and Stephanie (Andrew); and great grandchildren Georgia, Helen, Sacha, and Andrew. Funeral Service will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. in the Iona Chapel of the First Presbyterian Church in Gainesville, Florida. Viewing is available beginning one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Florida or the Gainesville Garden Club.
