YOUNG, JACK JARRETT, 89
Gainesville - Jack Jarrett Young, age 89 of Gainesville, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014 in Lakeland, FL where he had been living since August of 2013. He was born to Joseph and Mabel Young in Eustis, FL on December 28, 1924 and grew up in Tallahassee.
Jack joined the Navy in 1943, served in the Philippines, and studied accounting at the University of Florida. He married Alice J. O'Connor of Tampa, on August 5, 1950, spending 54 happy years with her in Gainesville.
Jack opened the first Gulf service station in town then later sold it to open "H & Y," the first full service car wash. Jack retired in 1990 to enjoy his family and his favorite pastime; fishing at his second home in the town of Suwannee.
Jack is predeceased by his wife, Alice, and survived by their sons Jarrett Young, of Brooks, GA, and Randy Young of Lakeland, FL along with their families.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Milam Funeral Home Chapel. There will be a visitation one hour prior starting at 12:30 pm. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 401 SE 21st Avenue, Gainesville, FL.
