Gainesville, Florida - James H. Griffin, age 84, surrounded by his family at home went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 5, 2014. James was born in Bartow, Florida to Julius S. and Nancy L. Griffin. James moved to Gainesville in 1933 with his family and remained in Gainesville thereafter. He graduated from Gainesville High School and attended the University of Florida College of Engineering. James entered the United States Air Force from 1950 until 1954 where he served honorably. After college, James went to work for Sperry Rand as a Draftsman, then General Electric, and finally Energizer where he retired.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius S. and Nancy L. Griffin, and sister Irene Griffin. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Venora Fletcher Griffin, three daughters, Jayne Deal (Roger), June Gilly (Steve), and Kim Garrett (Bob), brother W. Dale Griffin (Jackie), five grandchildren, Jonathan, Kevin, Melissa, Jason, Trey, one great grandchild, Jacob and a large extended family.

He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to their second home in Suwannee, vacations to the beach and Smokey Mountains, all the time surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly.

The family will receive friends at the Milam Funeral Home of Newbery, 22405 West Newberry Road on Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.

Funeral Services will be held at Parkview Baptist Church, 3403 N.W. 13th St., Gainesville, FL 32609 on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Greg Magruder presiding. Entombment will follow at Forest Meadows Chapel in the Meadows.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Parkview Baptist Church.
