John Andrew Luxardo, a nature lover and free spirit, passed on March 28, 2013 in Sarasota, Florida. He was 27. A native Floridian, John was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on April 12, 1985.

After a happy childhood spent exploring the woods and hiking in the Pacific Northwest, he moved with his family to Roswell, Georgia where he excelled in poetry, science, and cross country running. He was known at Centennial High School, where he was a favorite among his classmates, for his ability to make everyone laugh and for his kind spirit. A friend to all, but particularly to nature and animals, John returned to his native Florida to attend the University of Florida.

He majored in environmental science and graduated from the University of Florida in August 2010. In Sarasota, where he moved after graduation, he worked as a process design engineer in water treatment and other environment-enhancing projects. An ardent musician and admirer of the natural world around him, he always encouraged everyone to get in the drum circle of life. He loved snorkeling and other water sports, playing rare and exotic instruments, and innovative cuisine. His zest for life was apparent to all who met him.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 1pm at St. Michael the Archangel in Siesta Key, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John's memory to the Children's Rainforest at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota, Florida where he was a frequent visitor (
