John Carey (Jack) McCraw, Jr., died on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2012, after a short illness. We will always be thankful for Jack and remember him as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, golf buddy, friend, boss, and Holy Faith Catholic Church Eucharistic Minister.

Jack was born on June 25, 1936 in Decatur, Alabama to Eugenia Olive Kincaid and John Carey McCraw, Sr. He grew up in a series of towns along the Tennessee River in Kentucky, Alabama and Tennessee, where his father was an engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1958. He then moved to Florida and began working with Shands and Baker.

He married Lauranne Cash of Orlando in 1961. They moved to Gainesville in 1967 with their three young daughters. He owned the Primrose Inn Restaurant until it closed in 1988. He later worked for Service Title Corporation and Holden and Williams, Attorneys at Law.

Jack pursued his favorite hobby playing many rounds of golf at the Gainesville Golf and Country Club and more recently at the University of Florida Golf Course. A lifelong sports fan, Jack rooted for the Gators as well as his beloved Tennessee Vols. His major sports passion was baseball; as a San Francisco Giants fan from childhood, he particularly enjoyed the post- season run and World Series victory this year.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lauranne Cash McCraw, his daughters Laurie Stephens (Trip), Mellie O'Keefe (Dan), and Genie Hooper (Bill). He was Poppa to Annie, John, and Thomas Stephens, Jack, Jimmy, Meg, and Daniel O'Keefe, and Will and Michael Hooper. He is predeceased by his parents, and his brother, Thomas Kincaid McCraw of Boston, who died November 3, 2012.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Faith Catholic Church in Gainesville. A private interment will be held at a later date. To honor Jack, please send memorials to Holy Faith Catholic Church, 747 NW 43rd Street, Gainesville, Florida 32607.
