Archer - Josephine Whistler McNeill Gravely, "Jo" died peacefully at her home in Archer on July 12, surrounded by beloved children and grandchildren.

Josephine was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lucius Brockenborough Gravely, III "LB" and her parents, Archibald McDiarmid McNeill and Clara Belle Wind. She is survived by five children, Lucius Brockenborough Gravely, IV "Broke" (Marcia); McDiarmid McNeill Gravely "Mac" (Celia); Clara Margaret Driebe (Bill); John Emerson Gravely (Charlene); and Josephine Elizabeth Mauger "Jogi" (Paul). She is descended from early Scot and English ancestors in this country. Jo was born at home in Gainesville, FL in 1922. In 1925 her family moved to Archer. She graduated from Archer High School and attended Georgia State Women's College.

In 1944, she married her soul mate. They lived in Newberry, FL, Burlington, NC, Tallahassee, FL, Gainesville, FL and again in Archer where she lived for another 58 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, sister and daughter. Jo was a den mother for the cub scouts, a Sunday school teacher, a Garden Club Member, but was most noted for her ability to sew. She truly was able to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Her astounding ability clothed her children and many others. She had an innate ability to understand antiques, color and style and used it to decorate her lovely home.

During her retirement she and LB were active in the Gideon's International and Rotary International and traveled to many wonderful cities around the US. She supported the Salvation Army, Gideon's International and the Palmer Children's Home. Her artistic ability and loving her grandchildren is equaled by none. Jo was a lifelong Presbyterian and attended Bethlehem Presbyterian, Archer, First Presbyterian, Gainesville, and Community Presbyterian, McIntosh.

She leaves behind one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, five children, 16 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Gideon's International, or the Palmer Children's Home in Columbus, MS.

Services will be held on Tuesday July 16, 11:00 am at the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Archer, Fl with a graveside service to follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home, for further information please call 352-528-3481.
