Melrose, FL - Al Hall of Lake Winnott, Melrose, FL, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at Haven Hospice, Gainesville, FL. Al was born in Jacksonville, FL November 24, 1947 to Julian and Madeline Hall. He attended elementary school in Jacksonville and was a 1965 graduate of Gainesville High School. He earned a Journalism degree from University of Florida. He was an avid sports fan, especially Gator baseball. Although he was a UF grad, he loved Georgia football. He spent many a weekend fishing and water skiing. Al never met an animal he didn't like. He served in the US Army and was a Vietnam Veteran.

Al was a reporter for The Ocala Star Banner and The Gainesville Sun - covering the courthouse was his domain. He also covered business news. He worked with Chuck Sapp survey company and others.

Al is preceded in death by his parents - Julian and Madeline Hall, Lake Winnott, Melrose, FL and his sister June S. Gordon, Gainesville. He is survived by a brother Steve Hall (Mary) Gainesville; two nephews, Stephen (Andrea) Hall, Gainesville; Victor Hall (Michelle) Apopka; great niece Basilisa, a niece, Paula G. Thomas (Chuck) Gainesville; brother-in-law Stan Gordon (Gainesville) and numerous Nash and Hall cousins. Cremation will be handled by Moring Funeral Home. Al did not wish to have a service. A gathering will be held at Chiappini's in Melrose at a later date.
