Gainesville - Mary Eleanor Rogers Heisler passed away at 11:11 a.m. on March 6, 2013 at her home after a battle with cancer.

Mary was born on March 28, 1921 in Atlanta, GA to Dr. James Virgil Rogers and Mary Ruth Collins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. On August 14, 1946 Mary Rogers married Robert Lowrey Heisler, who preceded her in death on March 7, 1975. Surviving is their only child, Robert Lowrey Heisler, Jr. of Gainesville, FL. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mary graduated from Georgia State Women's College in 1942 where she was a member of the tennis and swim teams. Upon graduating, Mary worked at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, GA where she was certified in Medical Technology. During World War II, she worked in the Laboratory of Microbiology at Finney General in Thomasville, GA. After the war, she transferred and worked as a medical technician at Oliver General Hospital in Augusta, GA treating the returning soldiers. Mary and Bob moved from Georgia to live Gainesville, FL in 1949. They welcomed their son, Robert, on September 25, 1953. Mary then went on to dedicate 27 years to medical and nutritional research work at the University of Florida. Traveling became Mary's favorite pastime. She visited many amazing locations such as Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, and South America. Mary was very active in her church, First United Methodist, the Gainesville Women's Club and loved to garden.

Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, March 11th at First United Methodist Church, 419 N.E. 1st St., Gainesville, FL, 32601. The service will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Sara McKinley presiding. Burial will follow at Forest Meadows East Cemetery, 3700 S.E. Hawthorne Rd., Gainesville, FL. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to the First United Methodist Church 'The Masters Plan', 419 N.E. 1st St., Gainesville, FL, 32601.
