BATIE, ROSA MARY, 74
Mrs. Rosa Mary Lewis Batie, age 74, passed away, August 28, 2014 at her home. Mrs. Batie was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, a graduate of Lincoln High School and City College. She was employed with the University of Florida as an Assistant Superintendent. Mrs. Batie was also a member of the Amaranth Heriones of Jericho Most Ancient Matron Daughter of Isis and Sphinx, Lady Knights, Queen of the South, District Worthy Matron #163, Deputy Princess Happiha for the State of Florida, Rose of Seven Seals, Female Protection Lodge#2, Pallbearer's Lodge #156.
Her husband, Fred Batie, Sr., and one son, Alphonso preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Davis (Valorie), Egg Harbor, NJ, Willie Littles, Orlando, FL, Terry Johnson, Panama City, FL, Min. Edgar Smith, III (Julia), Williston, FL, Evangelist Anita Smith (Terry), Bainbridge, GA, Co-Pastor Patricia Lavan (Pastor Al Lavan), Gainesville, FL; siblings, Jerome Lewis, Rickey Davis (Mary), Catherine Littles, Frankie Walden, all of Gainesville, FL, Laverne Young (Leon), St. Petersburg, FL, Lola Davis, White Plains, NJ, Diane Davis, Hartford, CT, twenty-nine grandchildren, special grandchildren; Tawana Bryant, Sharonda Lavan, and numerous great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Batie will be held, 10:00am, Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Female Protective Temple, Dr. Willis Caison, Officiating, Pastor Keith Smith, Presiding; burial will follow in Forest Meadows Memorial Park East. Arrangements entrusted to Chestnut Funeral Home, Inc., 18 N.W. 8th Avenue, Gainesville, FL.
Mrs. Batie will repose in the Chestnut Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 5, 2014 from 2:00 until 5:00pm, and on Saturday at the Temple from 9:00am until the hour of Service. A Wake Service will be held Friday, at Emmanuel Baptist Church from 6:00pm until 7:30pm. Family and friends are asked to meet on Saturday at the home of Mrs. Batie, 920 S.E. 18th Terrace, at 9:00am to form the cortege.
