BAKER, SEAN BYRD

Columbus, GA - SFC Sean Byrd Baker of Columbus, GA passed away May 27, 2014. He was born November 10th, 1970 in Dallas, TX. He enlisted in the Army in 1988 and was currently stationed at Fort Benning, GA.

During his twenty-six years in the Army, he participated in Operation Desert Shield, in Saudi Arabia; served three tours in Korea; and deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was also stationed at Fort Sill, OK, Fort Rucker, AL, Fort McNair in Washington, DC. In 2011, he was assigned to the 4th Ranger Training Battalion and served as the Senior Human Resources Sergeant.

SFC Baker's many awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal (Kuwait) and Kuwait Liberation Medal (Saudi Arabia).

He is of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed basketball and all Gator sports.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Baker of Columbus, GA, daughter, Shaitonia Black of New Jersey, Goddaughter, Serenity of Gainesville, 2 brothers, Christopher Baker of Gainesville, FL and Eric Baker of Vero Beach, FL, sister, Donna Brown of Gainesville, FL, and grandson, Elijah McCline.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2014 in the Chapel in the Meadows at Forest Meadows Central, 4100 NW 39th Avenue, Gainesville, FL and interment with military honors will follow. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, at Forest Meadows Funeral Home, 725 NW 23rd Avenue, Gainesville. An online guestbook is available at
