Dale Huffman, age 97, former resident of Woodland Park, CO passed away December 12, 2013 in Chandler, AZ. Dale was born in Atwood, KS in 1916 and completed high school in Lamar, CO. He attended Pepperdine University in southern California where he received his BA degree and later attended a Baptist Seminary to become a minister. In 1941, Dale married Jean Wardlow in Riverside, CA.|
In 1944 he was inducted into the army and fought on the front line after landing on Omaha Beach. He came home from the war with a medical discharge and a Purple Heart. His fellow soldiers nicknamed him the "foxhole preacher" because he continued to preach the gospel on the battlefields in Germany and France.
Beginning in 1960, Dale worked as a teacher and counselor in the Woodland Park School district. After 20 years of service, he retired and moved to Chandler, AZ where he and Jean found a new home at the Sunbird Golfing Community.
Dale is survived by his two sons, Lance (Carol) and Dale (Charloette) and 3 grandchildren: Matthew, Rhonda and Phillip. Dale was also blessed with four great granddaughters: Amanda Sara, Vanessa, and Ava.
The family will hold a private funeral at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
