Gerald I. Gerber, age 87, of Security, Colorado, passed away on February 26, 2014. Gerb was born and grew up in Northwest Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd; mother, Lola and sister, Dorothy.

Gerb served as a bugler in the Army from 1945 to 1947. He married JoAnn Unger in 1952, and they enjoyed 61 years of family, friends, church, dancing, golfing and traveling.

Children include Michael Gerber (Peggy), Debbie Marshall (Kevin), and Tami Dickens (Andy); along with six grandchildren, Matthew Gerber (Brigid), Stephanie Gerber, Tyler Marshall, Colin Marshall, Brianna Dickens and Spencer Dickens. This family added joy, laughter, and happiness to Gerb's life.

Gerb was proud to be an educator and even more proud having six of his family members become educators. During 36 years of coaching, teaching, and counseling he respected education with the highest regard. He received his BA from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa and his MA from Colorado State University.

His career, including Iowa schools, Widefield High School in Security, Colorado and Colorado State University in Pueblo, Colorado touched the lives of many students.

Gerb was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, donating time to the Care and Share program, serving on the Finance Committee and enjoying fellowship with a TLC group. He had been an Argonaut and belonged to VFW Post 4051.

This husband, dad, grandpa and friend, had a kind and loving heart. All who knew him loved this gentle-spirited man.

Gerb's memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, Security, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Salvation Army Fresh Start, 910 Yuma, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.
