Harlan W. Loomas passed away at home in Prescott, Arizona, January 23, 2013, five days after his 78th birthday. Born in Los Angeles, he served in the Air Force before graduating with honors from Long Beach State with a degree in accounting. After becoming a CPA, Harlan worked his way up to found the HMO chain HealthCare USA, listed on the NYSE and lauded by Forbes Magazine (August 25, 1985). In retirement he indulged his love of travel, golf, tennis, woodworking, and volunteer work, such as serving as Chairman of the Board of Colorado Springs Memorial Hospital and mentoring youth in La Quinta. Harlan had a wonderful sense of humor and the ability to enjoy life. He is survived by the love of his life Carole, his wife of 43 years; their two children Harlan Jr. and Erin; his older children Wendy, Bryan, and Tim; six adored grandchildren; and his beloved sister Annetta of Carlsbad, California. Many others mourn his passing, especially his extended family of in-laws. A memorial service is planned for early March. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may donate to Wounded Warriors, the American Organ Transplant Assoc, or a Prescott Animal Rescue.
