Martha Ann Liggett was born to Ruth William L. Liggett August 31, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas. She passed away October 6, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was raised on a ranch in Western Kansas with 3 sisters and 1 brother. She attended Greely County High School in Tribune, Kansas. During WWII she worked in Wichita, Kansas for the Boeing Company.

In 1943 she married William A. Simpson, Jr. They had one son, William Richard (Rick) and lived in Tribune where she and her husband both worked at the First National Bank.
Martha was very community oriented and played piano and organ for the First Presbyterian Church and for Rotary International. She was a pilot along with her husband and son.
In 1974, they moved to Colorado Springs where she and her husband worked in the Bank of Fountain Valley and later, Citizens National Bank and First Bank. Martha was the first woman to become a bank president in Colorado Springs at Citizens Nationals Bank. They eventually moved to De Funiak Springs, Florida until they were unable to care for themselves, and then moved back to Colorado Springs.
Martha was preceded in death by daughter Martha Jane, brother, William E. Liggett, her parents and husband. She is survived by son Rick, sisters Phoebe Trentman Lanum, Memphis, Tennessee, Margaret Berger, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Barbara fisher, Colorado Springs, Colorado, grandchildren, Tron Simpson, Colorado Springs, Colorado and Mason Simpson, Lincroft, New Jersey and great grandchildren, Anthony, Cassandra, Ford and Brody.
Burial will be in the Greeley County Cemetery in Tribune, Kansas in the near future.
