George Peter Gehris

Sierra Vista, Arizona —George Peter Gehris, 83, went to meet our Lord on January 6, 2014. He was surrounded by his loving family at his home in Sierra Vista, AZ. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Sierra Vista, AZ on Monday January 13, 2014. Inurnment followed at the Southern Arizona Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. He was born on October, 7, 1930 to Harvey B. Gehris and Sarah F. (Stefko) Gehris. George grew up in Allentown, PA. He graduated from Allentown High School in 1948. After high school he joined the U.S. Army National Guard and served until 1952. In 1953, George joined the U.S. Air Force. George retired in 1973, achieving the rank of TSGT. He began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1973 as a Mail Carrier in Great Falls, MT. He retired in 1993 after 20 years and moved to Sierra Vista, AZ in 2003.

George married Colleen O'Fallon February 5, 1955 in Great Falls. They were married just one month short of 59 years. George was a member of the Knights of Columbus, earning the title of Grand Knight in 1996. He was also active in the Stephens Ministries, Cursillo Movement, and Special Olympics Organization. George enjoyed many hobbies and interests, some which include: Fishing, especially with his grandchildren; Gardening; Football, coaching his sons and cheering on his favorite team the "Chicago Bears"; Golfing; Traveling; Camping; Dancing and most of all, spending any time he could with his grandchildren.

George is survived by his wife Colleen, Sierra Vista, AZ; his children Renee Jones, Sierra Vista, AZ; Timothy (Mary) Gehris, Iowa City, IA; Valerie (John) Calbick, Sierra Vista, AZ; and Mark (Debbie) Gehris, Clinton, MS; his sister Betty Noll, Allentown, PA; his 13 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
