Belt, MT —John R. Marn, World War II veteran and Marine died at age 90 of natural causes. He was born on August 15, 1922 on the old homestead east of Belt, Montana to John and Anna Marn.
John lived in the area, enlisted in the Marine Corp. on November 10, 1942, and served in the South Sea Islands as a tank commander. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart and a second Gold Star for wounds recieved on Tarawa and Saipan. John was discharged on November 10, 1945, and returned to Belt where he was a ranch manager at Willow Creek Ranch for 25 years. He married Shirley Cameron in 1948 and their children are Charlotte (Clayton) Brurud, Sherry (Cal) Floerchinger, and Tim (Susan) Marn; four grandchildren, Jessica (Calvin) Henard, Mandy (Jay) Keaster, Kelly (Jennifer) Brurud, Tyler (Kayla) Floerchinger; greatgrandchildren, Raelee, Kenady, Tanner, Casey, Katelyn, Sierra, and Aliena.
Cremation has taken place with Croxford Mortuary in charge. A vigil will be held on Monday, June 24th at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Church in Belt and memorial mass Tuesday, June 25th at 9:30 a.m., at St. Mark's. Reception at the Belt Creek Brew Pub. Burial will be at the Belt Cemetary at a later day.
