BELGRADE Kirby R. Lewis, 65, died of natural causes Sunday, April 7, in Belgrade.

A potluck celebration of his life for family and friends is 2 p.m. Saturday at The Do Bar, 800 3rd St. N.W. in Great Falls.

Kirby was born March 28, 1948, in Spencer, Iowa, to Russell and Maxine (Spitzer) Lewis. He spent his childhood in Spencer; Omaha, Neb.; and Evreux, France, before moving to Great Falls in 1962. He graduated from C.M. Russell H.S. in 1967, where he was the AA Montana state javelin champion. He married Cheryl (Clapshaw) Lewis in 1967, and together they had children Chad and Stacey, all of Oregon, and who all survive him.

A retired meat cutter, he lived in Pasco, Wash., and the Portland/Canby/Silverton area of Oregon for about 30 years. He married Pam Lewis in 1999, who survives him along with stepdaughters Brittany of Belgrade, Bethany of Oregon and Amie of California.

He is also survived by his mother, Maxine Lewis, brother Larry and sister and brother-in-law Sue and Bret Hagel, all of Great Falls; brother Dan of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter in Oregon; nieces and nephews in Great Falls, Tennessee, California and Florida; and an aunt and cousins scattered from Iowa to California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Lewis; and sister-in-law Celeste Lewis.

Kirby loved softball, fishing and golf and will be remembered for always having an easy laugh, a good story and a cold beer.
