GREAT FALLS —Maurice D. Hurst, 81, of Great Falls, died in Salt Lake City, Utah on Sunday, November 24, 2013.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Schnider Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Manchester Cemetery. A reception at Mary's Midway, 372 S. Vaughn Frontage Rd. will follow burial. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Maurice was born on July 13, 1932 in a ranch house near Daleview, Montana, the youngest of four boys, to Ellis and Lora Hurst. He attended schools in Outlook, MT graduating in 1951. He stayed and worked on the ranch with his brother, Loren, and his dad. Maurice entered the US Army in 1957 and was stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. In September 1958, he was discharged from active duty due to a family hardship and returned to Montana and was later discharged from the reserves in 1963. He continued to farm in Outlook until 1984.
Maurice married Adelia Furst on August 18, 1957 in Whitetail, MT. They made their home in Outlook and from this union, there were two daughters, Rita and Irene. In 1984, they moved to Great Falls and later divorced.
He worked for Short Stevens on the Manchester Farms. Together, with Mary Golt, they started Mary's Midway in 1998 and was active with his business even at the time of his death. Maurice loved telling everyone he was the PR guy for the business.
Maurice was a big time Bobcat and Kansas City Chiefs fan. He enjoyed going to Bobcat football games in Bozeman when the kids were attending school. John Deere was the only tractor made!
Maurice is survived by his wife, Mary Golt of Great Falls; daughters Rita (Steve) Smith and Irene (Jeff Neiffer) Waring both of Great Falls; sons A.J. Golt of Chicago, IL and William (Luisa) Golt of Great Falls; brother Loren Hurst of Colorado; grandchildren Andrea, Matthew, Brett, Nicole (Pat), Amanda (Chris), Johnathan, and James; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Willard and Ellis, Jr.
