Nimlos, Carol (Malila)

Carol Nimlos (Malila), 77, Monona/Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, at St. Mary's Care Center, Madison. She was born on Dec. 25, 1936, in South Range, Mich., the daughter of Onni and Sylvia (Juntenen) Malila. She married the love of her life, John Nimlos on Feb. 3, 1962. John and Carol had three daughters and shared 37 wonderful years until his death in May of 1999. Carol's love of children led her to a career in education, where she spent the majority of her professional life as an elementary school teacher in the Southern Door School District. Early in her career, she also supervised student teachers at the University of Wisconsin. She was a wonderful seamstress, putting her talents to work creating costumes for performances of all kinds. Carol was not only an educator, but also a foster parent and exchange student host, opening her home to many others. She was very involved in the in Dane County, the United Way and served as a volunteer for numerous other charitable organizations. Carol was passionate about music and loved to sing. She was involved in many vocal groups throughout her life and most recently directed and sang with the Fitchburg Singers through the Fitchburg Senior Center. Carol loved spending time with her family, especially her nine grandchildren, who made her extremely proud.

She is survived by her husband, William Beduhn; children, Linda (David) Slamka, Amy (Jack) Hippen, Rebecca (Craig Busick) McCorkle; grandchildren, Kara and Noah Slamka, Hannah, Holly, Caroline and Jonathan Hippen, Carson and Cameron McCorkle and Nevie Busick; a brother, Jim (Barbara) Malila; and many other family and friends. Her loving and generous nature was shared with so many and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John; her parents; and a brother, John Malila.

Funeral Services will be held at LAKE EDGE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4032 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, 2014. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL HOME, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 3, 2014, and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday. A Funeral Service will also be held at FORBES FUNERAL HOME, 310 W. Spruce Street, Sturgeon Bay, at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2014, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mustafa Baskaya, Agrace HospiceCare, St. Mary's Care Center and UW Neurosurgery Unit.
