James W. Hansen, 80, Lakewood Ranch, Fla., passed away peacefully on April 20, 2013, at home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Green Bay, Wis., to the late Jerome and Joyce Hansen and graduated from East High School and was very active in high school sports, specializing in football and basketball. He was also active in the G.B. YMCA in the sports programs. Jim was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers Fan. Jim was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. When he returned home, he went to work in Mundelin, Ill., as a restaurant specialist. He later moved to Sarasota, Fla. and worked in commercial real estate for the Remax Company until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie "Snooky" (Nuss) (Ault) Hansen, whom he married on April 22, 1999 and his favorite dog, Snoopy II. He is also survived by his son, Sean (Cindy) Hansen and daughter, Kris Hansen, both of Sarasota, Fla.; brother, Richard (Lois) Hansen Green Bay, Wis.; and sister, Carol Bysina, Sarasota. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Nancy Mocco, Garden Grove, Calif.; brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Pat) Nuss, Bonita Springs; Robert (Jan) Nuss, Green Bay; and a sister-in-law, Pat Boone; as well as nieces and nephews; and special friends; Jack and Theresa Schoenthaler and family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Geraldine Steudrwald.

Jim's favorite saying was "it's great to be alive" and he lived life to the fullest. Jim will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A gathering celebrating Jim's life will be held at the Moorings Club House in Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday April 23, 2013, from 11 to 1 p.m. and in Green Bay, Wis., at the Lutheran Church at Calvary at a later date. Arrangements are with Toale Brothers Funeral Home.
