APPLETON-Miles S. Mittelstadt, age 51, died unexpectedly of an embolism on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at home in Appleton. He was born on July 1, 1961, in Madison, the son of Russell J. and Marlys L. Mittelstadt.
Miles "Baron" was a graduate of Monona Grove High School in 1979, where he played football, baseball, and hockey. He attended the United States Military Academy at West Point from 1979-1980 where he was a member of the ski team. Miles graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Madison summa cum laude with his Bachelor of Science degree in Economics in 1983 and graduated from UW-Madison Law School in 1986. At UW-Madison, he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He began practicing law at Davis and Kuelthau in Milwaukee and became Associate General Counsel at Schneider National in 1992. Miles was a true patriot and libertarian. He believed in the founding principles of our nation. He was a member of MENSA and the Wisconsin State Bar Association.
Outside of work, Miles enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the NRA. He also enjoyed spending his time both snow and water skiing and was a member of the United States Ski Association. Miles loved sitting on the beach with his "Sweets" and dreaming of their plans to open a bar together in Costa Rica or Belize, and loved coaching his sons in both hockey at the AAHA organization and baseball in Little League.
Most of all, Miles loved his sons, wife and family more than his life. He took on the burdens for all, never asking for anything in return.

He believed that: professionalism matters, honesty matters, self-sufficiency is the greatest gift you can give your children, and "trust but verify." Miles would prefer we remember that no matter how he delivered the message, his intent was good and he really had a heart of gold.
