McCrary, Nancy

On August 29, 2013 I lost my beloved wife, Nancy, at the age of 80, whom I adored for over 67 years. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Nancy Joanne (LaCombe) was born February 2, 1933 to Robert and Lucille (Doherty) LaCombe in Green Bay, WI. She grew up on the west side of Green Bay where she attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School, Green Bay West High School, class of 1951, and Northwestern University. We met at Fort Howard Park when Nancy was in 8th grade and I was in 9th. When Nancy's father died unexpectedly, Nancy helped raise her 4 sisters and really took care of the family. When I returned from the Korean War we decided to marry and eloped on May 20th, 1954. Within a couple of years we started our "Clan" of three boys and three girls.

While I was teaching, and working my many summer jobs, Nancy had the important responsibility of raising the "Clan" and managing a very active household. Later she enjoyed the challenge of an office environment, working in the payroll department at Schneider National.

In her limited spare time during those busy days, and finally in retirement, she found joy and comfort in many activities including reading, sewing, cross word puzzles, bowling, golfing, gardening, playing "Sheepshead" and Bridge. She liked to travel, enjoying many trips with me, our friends and especially with her sisters. We bought a cottage on the Bay of Green Bay in 1980 where our family would gather for many fun bon fires, walks on the beach collecting 'sea glass,' volleyball games and playing with the grandchildren. She especially cherished the view of the bay with a lovely sunset and her grandchildren playing on the sandy beach.

Nancy will be dearly missed by myself, her loving husband, Herdis; her six children, Candy (Wayne) De Moulin, Howard, Mitch McCrary, Chicago, IL, Kevin (Kathy "KT") McCrary, Howard, Linda McCrary, Green Bay, Chris (Dan) Van Alstine, Green Bay, Pat (Lisa) McCrary, Tacoma, WA; grandchildren, Jake (Marissa) De Moulin, Abrams, Luke (Alicia) De Moulin, Waco, TX, Angie De Moulin, Green Bay, Ryan McCrary, Oshkosh, Rachael McCrary, Howard, Evan Van Alstine, Ft. Atkinson, Madeline Van Alstine, San Francisco, CA, Brett Van Alstine, Green Bay, Cavan McCrary, Tacoma, WA, Teagan McCrary, Tacoma, WA; great-grandchild, Justin De Moulin and two new great-grandchildren on the way; sisters, Ione (Bob) Bristol, Ginger Dowling, Roberta (Clem) Massey, Michelle LaCombe; sister-in-law, Marianne McCrary; god-daughter, Nancy Bristol; nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; my parents, Herdis Sr. and Mary McCrary, and a brother-in-law, Ken Dowling.

There is a song, For Loving You, that best describes our loving relationship. May "My Nancy" rest in peace.

We will have a visitation at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave on Tuesday, September 3rd from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m., with a Time of Remembrance at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Howard Cemetery. Online condolences can be expressed at www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

My family would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Minca, Home Instead Caregivers, Aurora VNA & Hospice. We would also like to say a very special thank you to Mary Escoto-Rolefson, for her tender care and friendship to Nancy.
