Norbert A. Galecke, known to so many as "Nubbs" - "Norb" - "Norm" and "Smokey Bear" made his final dispatch on July 3, 2014. Norbert was born in Plover, Wis. and grew up helping his parents on the Galecke Family farm. Norbert attended High School at P.J. Jacobs in Stevens Point, Wis. and enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 1954, when he graduated. He served four years active duty and four years reserve duty and was honorably discharged June 23, 1958, with a rank of Staff Sergeant. He attended Central State College (UW-Stevens Point) and on Sept. 10, 1960, he married his wife of 53 years, Judith Ann Joslyn in Plover, Wis. He completed college in 1962, with a degree in Natural Resources and went to work as the Forest Ranger dispatcher out of Park Falls, Wis., for the Wisconsin Conservation Department. Norbert worked 27 years for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. Nubbs was an avid outdoorsman and was most passionate about his fishing and enjoyed his annual trips to Isle Royal with fishing buddies. Camping with his family was also a true love, especially enjoying the Fire Family annual camping event. After he retired, Nubbs and Judy traveled with pickup camper and then a 5th wheel and they enjoyed 42 states camping and visiting. Nubbs and Judy traveled to Hawaii twice, took a Cruise Ship to Alaska and wintered in Destin, Orlando and Jacksonville, Fla. In 1995, Nubbs was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

Nubbs was preceded in death by parents, Michael and Julia Galecke and brother, Eugene Galecki. He is survived by wife of 53 years, Judith (Judy) A Galecke, Green Bay; daughter and son-in-law, Danette (Dani) and Bob Hearron, Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Luanne Galecke and Carey Hill, Green Bay, Wis.; daughter, Cheryl (Cheri) and Jill Henrichs, Green Bay, Wis.; brother, Clarence and Diana Galecke, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; brother, Robert and Jackie Galecke, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Beth Hearron, Omaha, Neb.; Jake and Linzie Hearron, Coral Springs, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, July 8, at Holy Cross Parish, 3009 Bay Settlement Road, Green Bay 10 to 10:30 a.m. Gathering at the Church 10:30 to 10:55 a.m. Remembering, Sharing and Celebrating Nubb's Life. 11 a.m. Catholic Memorial Mass officiated by Rev. Michael J. Weber, O. Praem. Pastor Holy Cross Parish.

"Nubbs" wished to donate his body to the University Of Wisconsin Madison School Of Medicine - Body Donor Program, so that the students could continue to further their medical education in Wisconsin after his passing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Cross Parish.
