Elm, Norman

Norman Elm, 81, of De Pere, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. He was born on February 1, 1931 in Green Bay to the late Frissell and Angie (Smith) Elm. He attended Milwaukee Boys Tech and Nicolet High School. Norman was united in marriage to the former Carol John on December 6, 1963. Norman served honorably in the United States Marine Corp, and was also a member of the American Legion, Post 2930. He was a member of the Local 330 Laborer's Union for over 50 years. Norman worked as a construction laborer for many years, a majority of years with J.C. Basten, as well as Fruin Colin, and retired in 1987. He was inducted into the Oneida Hall of Fame for playing 1st Base with Oneida Baseball, Dairyland League. He was known as the best 1st Baseman Oneida ever had. He went on to play semi-pro baseball in Milwaukee. He enjoyed collecting model trains, cars, and coins, as well as entertainment at the casino. Norman was a craftsman with a knack for woodworking, and enjoyed building projects for community members. He also enjoyed spending time in his garage working, and with his family and friends listening to old time music.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Norb (special friend Shannon McGimsey) Elm; two daughters, Lori and Tamara Elm; seven grandchildren, Jonas, Johnathan, Natasha, Megan, Bryce, Skylee, Anastacia, and a great-grandchild, Ahlayna. Norman is further survived by his sister, Irene Hill; step-sisters, Doreen and Judy; step-brother, Luke; sisters-in-law, Betsy John, Judi (Tony Jr.) Skenandore, Karen (David) Powless; brother-in-law, Gene Silas; special friends, Yogi and Tony; as well as numerous, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Emil Elm; brother-in-law Ronnie John; sisters-in-law, Mary Hill and Beverly Silas; eight nephews, Larry, Russell, Floyd, Richard, Nick, Ricky, Emil Jr., and Tommy.

Friends and family may gather at RYAN FUNERAL HOME (305 North Tenth Street, De Pere, WI) on Saturday February, 2, 2013 from 10am until 1pm when a funeral service will be held with Fr. Robert Clarke officiating. Oneida Singers will perform at 12:30pm, with Military Honors and Drums to follow service. Burial at Holy Apostles Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Norman's name.
