Charles N. Findlay, 83, of Greer, SC, formerly of Lockport, IL, husband of J. Jeannine Findlay, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014 after a brief battle with mesothelioma lung cancer.
Born on Dec. 29, 1930 in Aurora, IL, he was a son of the late Thomas and Hazel Gilmore Findlay.
Mr. Findlay served in the Air Force during the Korean conflict and was recently honored by being able to travel to Washington, DC to see the memorials on the Honor Flight.
He was employed by the Lockport Township Fire Dept. for 25 years. Upon retiring, he moved to Greer, SC, and served as Fire Chief of the Boiling Springs Fire District.
He was a member and Officer at the American Legion in Greenville where he loved volunteering in the War Museum, giving tours and sharing stories of his time of military service.
In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, he is survived by four daughters, Fern Kinder (John,) of Lockport, IL, Francene Sandiford (George,) of Easley, Faye Findlay, also of Easley, and Charlene Proietta (Tony,) of Piedmont; five grandchildren, Elise Grazulis (Matt), Robert Kinder, Ashleigh Proietta, Danielle Sandiford, and Anthony Proietta; one brother, Nelson Findlay, of St. Charles, IL; and one sister, Clara Ann Babel, of Big Rock, IL.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Boiling Springs Fire District, Station 4 Community Building, 208 Blacks Dr., Greenville, SC 29615, followed by a time of visitation.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. Findlay and family would like donations to be made to the Boiling Springs Fire District; or to the American Legion Post #3 of Greenville, SC.
