Garvin Haskell Sloan, 74, of 1208 Casey Rd., Woodruff, passed away November 24, 2013 at home. The son of the late Alvin Shaw and Edna Pearson Sloan, he was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mr. Sloan is survived by his wife, Nancy Owings Sloan, three sons: Steve Sloan (Arminda) of Woodruff, Jimmy Sloan (Sandy) of Fountain Inn, and Tony Sloan (Lisa) of Gray Court, three daughters: Kathy Lathwell (BJ) of Campobello, Debbie Sloan Price of Woodruff, and Jo Turner (Thomas) of Moore, grandchildren: Michael and Angie Sloan, Jessica and Chris Dillard, Shelby Turner, Jason Lathwell, Matt Turner, Nicole Miller, Morgan Sloan, Jason Simmons, and Adam Lathwell, and great-grandchildren: Sydney Sloan, Madilyn Toplovich, Tyler Richards, Heather Golden, Will Golden, and Makayla Simmons. Mr. Sloan is also survived by three sisters, Janette Morton (Louie) of Greenville, Janice Bagwell (Earl) and Peggy Meece of Easley. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Annette Sloan and Nancy Gail Sloan, one brother, Lawrence S. Sloan, and his son-in-law, Robbie Price.

Mr. Sloan retired after serving 23 1/2 years in the US Air Force as a Rescue and Fire Protection Specialist. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and a member of the American Legion Post #739612219 and the Laurens County Veterans Hall of Heroes. He was employed with Morgan Corp. in Duncan, Palmetto Vermiculite in Woodruff, Laurens County Hospital security, and the Woodruff Police Dept.

A visitation for family and friends will be held Friday, November 29, 2013 from 6-8pm at JK Yarborough Mortuary in Woodruff, and one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Military honors will be bestowed upon Mr. Sloan during the funeral service on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 2:00pm at Antioch Baptist Church, Hwy. 221, Woodruff, with Rev. Carrol Caldwell and Rev. Jerry Taylor officiating.

Mr. Sloan's family will be at his home.
