Gladys Rice Banister, 90, of Greenville, wife of Johny Banister, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

Born in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late Omar and Eva Rice.

Mrs. Banister was employed by J.P. Stevens and was a member of West Gantt First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a former Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Dunean Lodge and a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW Post 1845. She enjoyed working with flowers, ceramics, baking and playing games.

Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Jerry Banister (Andrea) of Powdersville, and William Banister (Joyce) of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, Donald, Stacie, Jason, Dawn, and Kelly; and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at West Gantt First Baptist Church with visitation prior from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Gantt First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1452 White Horse Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
