First Sergeant (Ret). James Edward Taylor

Greenville

First Sergeant (Ret). James Edward Taylor, 80, of Greenville, husband of Mary Page Taylor, died Thursday, March 14, 2013.

Born in Laurens County, he was the son of the late Robert Wayne and Florence Oxner Taylor.

Mr. Taylor was a member of City View First Baptist Church where he was a greeter, on the men's prayer team and a member of Truitt Fidelis Sunday School class. He was a member of The Gideons International Greenville West Camp where he loved placing God's word in hotels, clinics, and hospitals with fellow Gideons. He retired from the United States Army after serving 20 years, receiving two purple hearts in the Korean War. He also served one year in the Vietnam War. He along with his family was stationed at Ft. Clayton in the Panama Canal Zone, where he helped coach the youth baseball team. He loved serving his country. After he retired from the army he worked as an electrician and retired after 20 years with DHEC as a rabies control officer and State Constable. He loved blue grass music, concerts, traveling, gardening, and taking trips in his RV. He loved people and never once met a stranger.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 60 years, are children, Jimmy Taylor (Tammy) of Columbia, Cecelia (Cece) Taylor, and Robert Taylor (Joyce) of Greenvile; two grandsons; three granddaughters; and five great grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at City View First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will be at the residence.
