Nancy Ellen Ware, 54, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2013, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Greenville, she was the beloved daughter of the late Donald B. and Donna L. Ware.
She attended Christ Church Episcopal School and St. Mary's College before graduating from College of Charleston with an Art degree. She most recently was employed in the BI-LO accounting department.
Following in her mother's footsteps and serving as a Board member, Nancy was dedicated to the Sarah Gossett Home. Her tireless work to beautify the house and grounds helped to provide a wonderful home for the residents. She gave back to the community throughout her life and was involved as a volunteer in Komen Race for the Cure and Lungs4Life, among other charities. She was a member of the Wildwood Garden Club.
Nancy's most treasured memories were with family and friends at Litchfield Beach. She enjoyed walking, hunting for sharks teeth, gardening and Pete's cheeseburgers. She had a special place in her heart for animals in need.
A loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Nancy will be remembered for her huge heart and generous spirit. Her smile could light up a room; her sense of humor was endless. She faced her cancer with strength, faith, courage and grace - inspiring all who knew her throughout her journey.
Surviving are her two brothers, Richard Ware (Debbie) of Bryn Mawr, PA; David Ware (Karen) of Chapin, SC; sister, Sally Mims (Lee) of Asheville, NC; seven nieces and nephews, Donald Ware, Laura Ware, Kathryn Munshaw, John Ware, Walker Mims, Sarah Mims and Ashley Mims; and her beloved dogs, Max and Yoda.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, at 11:00am at St. Paul's Church, 304 E. Camperdown Way, with the Rev. Thomas Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sarah Gossett Home, 27 Conestee Avenue, Greenville, SC, 29605; Lungs4Life, P.O. Box 8307, Greenville, SC 29604; or Ware Family Scholarship, c/o Wake Forest University, P.O. Box 7227, Winston Salem, NC 27109.
