Richard Lyle France


Richard Lyle France, 88, husband of Hattie Ann Schmoll France, died Sunday, April 27, 2014.

Born in Rose Hill, IA, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Juliette Smith France.

Mr. France served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a retired Conservationist. He was a member of Simpsonville United Methodist Church. He loved playing football in high school and at Iowa State University. During the early 1960s, he lived in Rome, Italy, working with the Food and Agriculture Organization as a part of the United Nations.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 65 years, are daughters, Lynda France Tate of Greer, Cheryl Diane Ritchie and husband, James, of Decatur, GA and Carole Ann Sloan and husband, John, of Beverly Hills, MI; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, Western Carolinas Region, 940 Grove Road, Greenville, SC 29605
