Kevin Zoltan Merszei, age 29, died November 22, 2013 at his family home in Greenwich, CT .
Born in Los Angeles January 6, 1984, he was the son of Aimee and Zoltan Merszei. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Greenwich. Kevin attended Greenwich Country Day School and The Eaglebrook School. He graduated Greenwich High School in 2003 and Arizona State University in 2008.
From childhood, Kevin was fascinated with aviation. His natural aptitude earned him his private pilots license at age 18. At the time of his death he held FAA certifications in the most complex commercial aircraft in use today. He had worked as co-pilot of a private jet in Nigeria, instructor in an advanced aircraft simulator, and specialized cargo transport. In 2013 Kevin moved to Miami to fly for Ameriflight, domestically and internationally.
Kevin loved life's pleasures, particularly travel. Over the years, he visited some 30 European and Asian countries. Intrigued with foreign cuisines, he mastered many in the kitchen. His loyalty, generosity, infectious and wry sense of humor, and his love for those closest to him will be remembered and sorely missed.
Kevin is survived by his parents, now of Palm Beach, Florida; his wife Cristina whom he married in June; his half-siblings Leslie (Kliew) of Thailand, Geoffrey (Mary Jane) of Switzerland, Karen (Richard Stern) of Washington, DC, and his uncle Frederick Morner of Oakland CA.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Church Riverside CT at 12:00 noon Friday November 29. In lieu of flowers, donate in Kevin's memory to Pediatrics at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
