William (Bill) John Oberdorster Sr., retired Greenwich Police Detective, has died at the age of 67 years old due to complications from pancreatic cancer. Oberdorster was born in Yonkers, NY on November 25, 1947, to Joanne Gieschen and William Oberdorster. He pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering at New York University before joining the Greenwich Police Department in 1969. Oberdorster served for over 23 years on the police force and was President of the Silver Shield Association for over 10 years. Known as a "cop's cop" and a "staunch advocate," he received numerous commendations, letters of appreciation, and SSA awards. He relocated to Naples, FL in 1992 upon retirement from the GPD and worked as a manager of Marco River Marina. Bill loved Mustangs, a good political debate, a good meal and a good laugh. But more than anything, he loved his family. He is survived by his fiancé Diane Lowery; 2 children from his first marriage, Elizabeth Aikler and William J. Oberdorster Jr., and one child, George Oberdorster, from his marriage to Iris Marie Oberdorster (predeceased). He was a beloved grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Jaxon Aikler, Jagger Aikler, Isabella Oberdorster, and Jesse Oberdorster. A wake will be held Thursday, January 9th at Castiglione Funeral Home (134 Hamilton Ave. Greenwich, CT) from 3pm to 8pm. The funeral service will also be held at Castiglione's on Friday January 10th at 10am with burial to follow at Kensico Cemetery located in Hartsdale, NY.
