Olp, Donald L. (Butch)

Donald L. (Butch) Olp, age 82, formerly of Atlanta Circle, Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center.

He was born on March 16, 1932 in Reedsville, son of the late Herman and Lydia (Braatz) Olp. Don was a graduate of Reedsville High School with the class of 1950. He served in the U.S. Army and US Army Reserves during the Korean War, having been honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. During his service, Don was awarded the Bronze Star and the Korean Service Medal with two service stars. On January 19, 1952 he married Doris Kalies in Brillion. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2012. Don was employed with the US Postal Service retiring in 1989. Following his retirement from the postal service, Don worked part-time for Manitowoc Pharmacy. He was a member of the APWU (American Postal Workers Union), AmVets Post #99 and Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church. Don enjoyed gardening, especially roses, playing softball in Taus and for Westfield Bar in Manitowoc. He also enjoyed reading mysteries and watching the Brewers and the Packers and dancing with Doris.

Survivors include his children and their spouses: Brenda Kulas, Gail and Jack Keil, Holly and Terry Gauger, all of Manitowoc, Russell and Linda Olp, Two Rivers, Amy and Gary Zander, Peshtigo, Sheryl and Greg Birkholz, Watertown; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one more arriving in late November; six brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law: Elroy and Marlene Kalies, Fremont, Betty and Peter Zarnoth, Brillion, Virginia and Alfred Ziemer, Reedsville, Shirley Jandrey, Reedsville, Nancy and Norman Raatz, Appleton, Carl, Jr. and Beverly Kalies, Pine River, Janet Kalies, Brillion, Alan See, Kimberly. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife: Doris; his parents: Herman & Lydia Olp; his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Carl, Sr. and Emma Kalies; one sister and brother-in-law: Elaine and Crawford Fallier; one brother and sister-in-law: Leroy and Delores Olp; three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law: Lloyd Kalies, Bonnie See, Ralph and Elaine Kalies and Eugene Jandrey.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Service will be the Revs. Stephen Melso and Robert Kujawski with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. Military Honors will be accorded by AmVets Post #99.

The family will greet relatives and friends at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 9:00 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 until 10:45 a.m.
