Roman J. Grzywinski Obituary
Grzywinski, Roman J.

Roman J. Grzywinski slipped from this life to the next unexpectedly, but peacefully in his sleep, Friday afternoon, January 24, 2014, at his home, less than a month before his 82nd birthday.

Roman was born February 17, 1932 in Krakow, WI to Polish immigrants Stanislaw & Jozefa (Bedrziczka) Grzywinski. He attended St. Casmir Catholic School in Krakow, learning to read both English and Polish. In 1950 he joined the US Army, was trained as an infantryman and paratrooper, and served his country in Co. C, 14th INF in the Korean War until the death of his father in 1952 called him home to take care of his mom and the family farm. He worked several other jobs, including concrete silo building.

On December 14, 1968 he married Eunice J. Braun at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Green Bay. In 1971 they purchased a small family dairy farm near Menchalville where they raised their children and taught them the value and rewards of working hard and being responsible. In later years, Roman focused on cash cropping and growing vegetables for farmers' markets until he and Eunice retired completely from farming and moved to Manitowoc in 1999. Roman was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Kellnersville for almost 30 years, later becoming a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Roman was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Brewers' baseball and having breakfast with his "cronies" at Equity in Reedsville.

Roman is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years: Eunice; his daughters: Carla (Terry) Halvorson and Barbara Grzywinski (Bart Welsh); five grandchildren: Ryan & Nick Grotegut, Alyssa Halvorson, and Harper & Aubrey Welsh; one brother, Chester (Geraldine) Grzywinski; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wallace & Violet Braun; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Doreen; his brothers: John, Andrew, Peter, Stanley Jr & Leo; his sisters: Johanna, Marianna & Irene; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Walter & Dorothea (Reimer) Braun; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Leland Braun and Gerl & Judy Braun.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall, 1114 South 21st Street, Manitowoc. Officiating will be the Rev. Dave Beaudry. Burial will be in the Garden of Honor at Knollwood Memorial Park, 1550 Hwy 310, Manitowoc, with graveside military honors accorded by VFW Otto-Oas Post # 659 of Manitowoc, at 12:30pm. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Marshall from 9:30 am until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. The Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
