Vernon E. Kliment age 81 of 6612 Mapleview Lane, Whitelaw died Sunday night, September 15, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.

Vernon was born on November 27, 1931 in the Town of Kossuth son of the late Anton and Sylvia (Malley) Kliment. He was a 1949 graduate of Denmark High School. Vernon was a member of the United States Air Force serving in the Military Police from 1950 - 1954 in England during the Korean conflict. On June 21, 1958 he was married to Rita A. Multerer at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Manitowoc. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this past June. Vernon retired from the Manitowoc Sheriff's Department in 1987 following a thirty year career, retiring as Undersheriff. He was the director of support services of Manitowoc County and implemented the 911 program to Manitowoc County and introduced computerization to the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department. Vernon took classes at LTC and taught in the police science program at LTC. In the past, Vernon was a Red Cross instructor and NRA certified firearms instructor. In 1961, Vernon was one of the founding members of Manitowoc County Youth Sports. In 2010, he threw out the first pitch at the 50th anniversary of Manitowoc County Youth Sports. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek, Manitowoc Yacht Club, Manitowoc Eagle's Club #706 and WFLA Lodge #20 of Melnik.

Survivors include his wife: Rita Kliment, Whitelaw; three daughters and sons-in-law: Tracy (Andy) Wallace, Whitelaw; Tammy (Joe) Cisler, Larrabee; Terri (Pat) Brouchoud, Mishicot; four grandchildren: Steven and Kevin Cisler; Brady and Brogan Brouchoud; two sisters: Delores Nesvacil, Denmark; Lorraine Bottoni, Manitowoc; two nieces and their husbands: Lynda (Greg) Ellsworth, Eagle River; and their daughter: Ashley Ellsworth, Chicago, IL; Lisa (Neil) Franz, Manitowoc; two great-nephews: Tyler and Nic Franz and his faithful companion: Tundra. He was preceded in death by his parents: Anton and Sylvia Kliment; one infant granddaughter: Renee Claire Cisler; one sister-in-law: JoAnn Multerer; two brothers-in-law: Lloyd Bottoni and Lester Nesvacil.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 19, 2013 at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Becker will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow with full military honors accorded by Kubale-O'Connell VFW Post #6179 of Kellnersville at the Kossuth National Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Kellnersville from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m. Fr.
