Wallace Zimmerhakel, 88, a longtime Mishicot resident, entered into eternal life Thursday evening, November 7, 2013 at the Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center-North Ridge. Zimmy was born May 25, 1925 in Two Rivers to the late Robert and Irene Demsien Zimmerhakel and has been a lifelong area resident. He graduated from the Two Rivers High School. Zimmy married the former Delores M. Doubek, June 14, 1952 at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot. He served his country in the United States Army as a Medic in Europe from 1943 to 1946. Zimmy worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Manitowoc County Highway Department, and retired from there in 1987 after 41 years of service. He was a former member of the Mishicot Jaycee's Club and was a lifetime member of the Mishicot VFW Kempen-Staudinger-Terens Post # 7753. Zimmy loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed fishing, polka music, dancing, and attending car shows.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Lee Weber, of Manitowoc, one son, Bruce "Bucky" Zimmerhakel, of Two Rivers, two grandaughters, Kayla and Jenna Weber, one sister, Joyce (Melvin) Thomas, of Two Rivers, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home in Mishicot, with the Reverend Don Frelitz officiating, with entombment to follow in the Knollwood Mausoleum, Hwy. 310, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call after 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Following the service Military Rites will be accorded by the Mishicot VFW Kempen-Staudinger-Terens Post # 7753.
